The John Marshall Library

About the Library:

The dream of a library in the northern part of the county became a reality with the opening of the John Marshall Library in the Marshall Community Center in March, 1996. The library is named for one of Fauquier's most famous native sons, Supreme Court Justice John Marshall. Conveniently located to serve the northern Fauquier County communities, the John Marshall Library features current, high-demand books and other materials for all ages. Renovations in 2000 resulted in the branch doubling in size to 3,200 square feet.

Library materials are transferred to and from all of the county's three public libraries four times a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. John Marshall Library patrons have access to all of the books and other materials in the system-wide collection, of which nearly 85,000 are young adult or children's materials.Reference librarians are on duty whenever the libraries are open and online databases are available at all of the county's public libraries, and computer stations dedicated to Internet access allow library patrons to take advantage of thousands of resources from around the world. Four new computers were made available to the John Marshall Library at cost through a grant from the U.S. Library Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The funds used to purchase the computers was provided through an Infopowering Grant from the Library of Virginia. One of the new Gates Foundation computers has all of its software programs written in Spanish. Special story programs, designed to introduce children and parents to the beauty of the written and spoken word, are an important part of the overall service of the library and are held throughout the year. The library's summer reading program features special events and additional story and craft sessions at all of the county's public libraries.
