History:
The first Scotlandville Branch Library opened on July 1, 1974. Located in a small strip mall at 1492 Harding Boulevard, the 2,550 square-foot building was leased from Horatio Thompson. The branch remained at his address until it closed on August 20, 2001, when staff began moving collections and computer hardware to the new facility.
The new Scotlandville Branch Library facility was designed to accommodate the Scotlandville community with a book collection of 100,000 volumes and seating for 150 patrons.
A unique feature in the branch is a Black Heritage Room that contains a special collection of books and journals on and by African Americans. The library also contains public computers and meeting room space for 100 that can be divided into two separate rooms for library programming.
