Red River Zooport


The Red River Zooport is established for the purpose of initiating, developing, and maintaining a zoological and botanical garden in the greater Shreveport-Bossier area and surrounding communities. The organization's mission will be to develop over time through consultation with those persons with the appropriate expertise and through consultation with the community in determining what types of zoological and botanical garden would best meet the community's needs. Some of the goals of the organization may include preservation, community education, and breeding. Efforts will be made to house the animals in naturalistic and modern habitat. The size of the zoological and botanical garden will be determined and emphasis on quality by determining what extent the community is able to fund and maintain the establishment of the zoological and botanical garden.

The objectives of the corporation shall be:

To increase community involvement and interest in educational and cultural activities;

To provide volunteer services when needed;

To sponsor educational programs, recreational and community events;

To raise funds for special projects and improvements;

To engage in any activity which is in the furtherance of or benefits the maintenance of a zoo, botanical garden, aviary, aquarium, animal or cultural and educational facility of any kind.

To preserve animals and plants in a naturalistic and modern habitat, respecting the goal of environmental and ecological preservation. This will provide a sanctuary for endangered animals and may include breeding programs

An emphasis will be placed on maintaining the facility with asthetic values incorporating techniques such as landscape architecture to maintain quality rather than quantity

A well-placed facility will be designed in order to be easily accessible by public transportation. It will be located close to the tourism market to help provide funding for the facility.
