Prompton State Park provides boat launching and picnicking facilities to the 290-acre Prompton Lake, which is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Twenty-six miles of hiking trails surround the lake.
Hiking at Prompton State Park
26 miles of trails
The hiking trails are a mix of rocky paths and smooth forest floor. The northernmost 1.2-mile of East Shore Trail is old, smooth blacktop that used to be PA 170 before Prompton Dam was built, flooding most of the old road. Most trails are rated more difficult hiking.
Orchard Trail
3.5 miles, white blazes
On the west side of the lake, this trail parallels West Shore Trail.
West Shore Trail
3.5 miles, red blazes
On the west side of the lake this trail parallels Orchard Trail.
East Shore Trail
4.5 miles, red blazes
Extends from Beech Grove Road on the north end to the top of the dam at the south end.
Hemlock Trail
2 miles, yellow blazes
Starts at the east end of the dam and meets up with High Ledge Trail.
Bone Ridge Trail
2 miles, yellow blazes
Starts and ends on Hemlock Trail near the east side of the dam.
High Ledge Trail
2 miles, white blazes
Starts at East Shore Trail and meets Sugar Shack Trail.
Sugar Shack Trail
2 miles, white blazes
Begins on East Shore Trail and meets Eagle Pass Trail on the east side of the lake.
Eagle Pass Trail
1 mile, green blazes
Connects Cross Trail with East Shore and Sugar Shack trails.
Pine Creek Trail
1.7 miles, orange blazes
In the northeast end of the park, this trail begins and ends at Cliff Trail.
Blueberry Trail
1.5 miles, blue blazes
A loop off Pine Creek Trail at the northeast end of the park.
Cliff Trail
1.3 miles, red blazes
Starts at Sidewinder Trail and comes back to Pine Creek Trail.
Sidewinder Trail
1 mile, red blazes
From East Shore Trail to the beginning of Sidewinder Trail.
Picnicking at Prompton State Park
Picnic tables are by the boat launch.
A picnic pavilion is in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property above the dam.

Turkey
Hunting woodchucks, also known as groundhogs, is prohibited. Dog training is only permitted from the day following Labor Day through March 31 in designated hunting areas.
