History :
The
library was established in 1946 by the Owen County Woman's Club. It was
housed in the front parlor of Elizabeth Holbrook Thomas's home on the
same corner where the present library, built in 1973, now stands.
Checkout was based on the honor system - a person would bring in one
book to trade for another.
In 1968, the library became a special tax district. Revenues come primarily from local property taxes.
In 2001, the library underwent a complete interior renovation. It's
comfortable interior and inviting exterior are matched by innovative
programs and services.
