Odebolt Public Library

200 South Walnut
712-668-2718

History :

In 1896, a group of women organized as the Women's Reading Circle established a public library in Odebolt. Through the generosity of many, the Odebolt Public Library was opened in July 1898 in rooms rented above local businesses. In 1904, with the help of financial aid from Andrew Carnegie, a building was erected on a lot on Second Street donated by Mr. W. W. Field. This building served the community until 1997, when remodeling of the Carnegie building was begun, as well as construction of a new addition to the east, the Rosmer Bruce Annex. The Annex contains the John and Marion Selby meeting room, which is available for rent to the community. The library is governed by a Board of Trustees and is supported by the Friends of the Library organization.
