Mary Jacobs Memorial Library

64 Washington Street
609-924-7073

HISTORY

The history of the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation starts with a generous gift in 1968 by Harold Jacobs, to fund a library to be a living memorial to his wife, Mary Jacobs, who had grown up in Rocky Hill. With encouragement from the Borough of Rocky Hill, the Township of Montgomery and in partnership with Somerset County Library, the new Mary Jacobs Memorial Library opened its doors in 1974.

The Mary Jacobs Memorial Library Foundation was established to oversee the endowment to maintain, protect and preserve the library. The Foundation manages the capital budget governing the building maintenance, expansion, operating costs and expenses.

The purpose of the Foundation has changed over the years as the library has expanded the building and increased the technology services to meet the growing needs of the community and the costs of maintaining the library have increased. Today, it is imperative for the Foundation to generate private donor support to raise a new source of stable funding to protect the longevity of this wonderful library for the community.

MISSION

The Foundation’s mission is to provide a library building for the community. We strive to maintain an innovative, safe and welcoming environment that inspires learning, advancing technology and cultural engagement in the community.
