About Us:

Opened in May, 1970, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Library serves the Airport-Meadowview Community. As a Regional Library, it has the largest, most diverse collection in the south county and serves people from a wide geographic area. The library is open six days a week, and four nights.

The book collection is approximately 110,000 volumes, 30,000 of which are children's books. The collection contains materials in Chinese, Hmong, Russian, and Vietnamese. The library houses a collection of materials about Martin Luther Kings, Jr. which includes adult and children's books, audio tapes and videos. Another special collection is the Samuel C. Pannell African American Collection, established in memory of the late Sacramento City Councilman, which contains adult fiction and non-fiction written by or about African Americans.

The King library has 12 Internet terminals and 4 word processing terminals.

Each year in January, the Affiliate Friends of the King Library sponsor a Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest for 4th - 12th grade students. Winners receive monetary prizes and recognition for their essays. The Affiliate Friends also host a Reading Roundtable, a book discussion group for adults, the second Saturday of each month at the library.

First of its kind in the Sacramento Public Library, King's Homework Center serves students in grades K-8 Monday - Thursday from 3-7 P.M. The center provides free help with homework and opportunities to improve reading, math, writing and computer skills. A special summer program at the Homework Center helps students keep the skills they have gained during the school year.
