History Of Bryan Public Library

The Bryan Public Library was constructed in 1969 and remodeled in 1995. An arsonist set fire to the Bryan Library in the early morning hours of March 28, 1995, and the library reopened in September of 1995 after much restoration, cleaning and reconstruction.

The Bryan Library acquired its first computer in 1981. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation contributed almost $100,000 to establish a computer lab in 2001 of 11 computers in the Bryan Library, four additional computers downstairs, one of which is a Spanish language computer. Practically all the Microsoft software that exists is installed in these computers. The grant has renewed several times allowing adding six more computers as well as replacing all the existing computers in 2006.
