Charles H. Stone Memorial Library

History:

The library had its beginning when Charles H. Stone, a Charlotte businessman with roots in Pilot Mountain, quietly arranged to provide funds to build and furnish a library for the citizens of the community. The library, originally named the Pilot Mountain And Community Free Public Library, was begun in 1956 and was formally dedicated on October 13, 1957.

After Mr. Stone's death in 1963, the library was renamed the Charles H. Stone Memorial Library. In 1970, it became a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system.

By 1983, the library had outgrown the original facility, and an addition was built which more than doubled the available floor space.

By 1997, an automated circulation system was installed and in 1998, public internet stations became a reality.

In April 2001, the Charles H. Stone Memorial Library, as a member of the Northwestern Regional Library, installed the SIRSI Unicorn online automated system to continue improving services to the public.
