Carnegie Public Library

Carnegie Public Library was built in 1904 with a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie. It is owned, governed, and financed by the City of Las Vegas and serves the citizens of Las Vegas as well as San Miguel County. A five-member Library Board is appointed by the mayor to act in an advisory capacity. The Library was placed on the State Register of Cultural Properties in 1974, and on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Goals & Objectives:

The objective of the Carnegie Library is to provide free service to aid all individuals and groups in the community. This applies to both children and adults. It accepts as its basic objective the opportunity to provide materials which aid the community in the pursuit of educational, informational, research and leisure time reading. In the past few years the role of the library has expanded to include computer access to aid the public in the pursuit of technological advances.
