History
The Jimmie Libhart Library opened its doors in the spring of 1985, following several years of planning by community members who wanted a library in their town. Bowie School District #14 agreed to provide a home for the library in a classroom in the old Elementary School building. The library was named for teacher Jimmie Libhart, who taught in Bowie for 50 years.
Over the years, the library has been open to the public through the dedicated efforts of a number of volunteers. As a branch of Cochise County Library District, it receives books and other materials, supplies, interlibrary loan services, access to the countywide online system, training and support for the volunteers and management by the Branch Manager, who is a Library District staff person. In the spring of 2001, the library was moved to a new location just down the street next to the Cochise County JP Court.
