If my landlord is trying to evict me in Louisiana, will that process move forward?

The ban on evictions in Louisiana was lifted on June 15, 2020, and can move forward as court capacity will allow.

Courts have suspended non-essential actions, which covers most evictions, in Louisiana, and state and local governments have also barred certain evictions while the stay at home order is in place. Unless it is extended, though, proceeding could go forward as early as May 4, 2020. If you are unable to pay your rent for a COVID-19-related reason, contact your landlord and try to make an arrangement that works for both of you. Get in touch with the housing office in Lafayette or your parish for additional assistance.
